In a Press Release on 4 October 2016, The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has decided to award the Nobel Prize in Physics for 2016 to:
David J. Thouless (1/2) University of Washington, Seattle, WA, USA, F. Duncan M. Haldan (1/4) Princeton University, NJ, USA and J. Micheal Kosterlitz (1/4) Brown University, Providence, RI, USA
“for theoretical discoveries of topological phase transitions and topological phases of matter"
